Private Health Cover
Counselling sessions can be claimed with most private health care funds however, you will need to confirm this with your private health care provider. If eligible to claim your reimbursement simply retain your receipt and present it to your health fund and make the relevant claim. This is only applicable if you are not already using the Medicare rebate.
Medicare Assistance
Maverick Child and Adolescent Psychology provide counselling under the Medicare Better Access Program for clients. You may be able to access a Mental Health Care Plan referral from your GP, enabling you to receive a Medicare rebate of $84.80 meaning you will only be 'out of pocket' the remainder of the fee. You and your GP can work together to decide whether you are eligible for this type of plan. The Medicare rebate is available for up to ten sessions per calendar year.

About

Michael Duhig

Maverick Child and Adolescent Psychology is a Brisbane based psychology practice operated by Michael Duhig. Michael is an Educational and Developmental psychologist with post-graduate training in Educational and Developmental Psychology and Health Management. While completing his studies, Michael developed his clinical skills in government and non-government sectors specifically focused on Child and Youth Mental Health and Child Development.

Michael has experience in counselling children and adolescents experiencing a range of difficulties including; anxiety, depression, emotional and behavioural regulation, trauma, and relationship issues. Being heavily involved in sport and a former international rugby union player, Michael can weave physical activity into therapy to engage and benefit clients. Michael is also proficient in academic and cognitive assessments.

When not practising clinically, Michael is the Clinical Research Manager (CRM) at the Centre for Clinical Trials in Rare Neurodevelopmental Disorders (CCTRND) at the Queensland Children's Hospital. In this position, Michael oversees multiple clinical trials assessing the efficacy of novel pharmacological agents for rare disorders including Fragile X Syndrome, Prader-Willi Syndrome, Angleman Syndrome, Rett Syndrome, 22Q and ASD. Similarly, Michael holds an Associate Lecturer appointment at the University of Queensland (CHRC) and has presented lectures for both domestic and international audiences. Michael has a keen interest in research has published several articles related to Child and Youth Mental Health and Child Development. Michael is also a panel member for the Mental Health Scholarships Scheme for Allied Health Professionals within QLD Health and the current state Chair for the College of Educational and Developmental Psychologists, Queensland.
